ACTIVE STATE is a specialist company run by highly respected coach Michael MacFarlane, who is a performance driven professional with extensive experience in the Health & Fitness industry.

As far back as l can remember, living a healthy and active lifestyle, has always been important to me and it’s still something that l’m extremely passionate about today.

With two decades in the industry, Michael has a wealth of knowledge and is a leading industry trainer. His career has taken him and his clients all over the world.

He has a rich and varied clientele which includes;

- People looking to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing

- Strength & conditioning departments of AFL and NRL clubs

- Corporate companies looking to implement fitness programs for their employees

Michael strives to create a community where camaraderie is paramount whilst also providing avid adventurers with the strength and skills to crush their bucket list goals.

Michael isn’t your typical trainer, he doesn’t need to yell at you or guilt you to get results. “Michael has been my trainer for the best part of a decade now. That says something in itself. 

What a journey it has been. I started out wanting to improve my overall health and being what I call fit for life. Michael has been my trainer for over a decade now. I'm now in my early 60's (yes old) and that's me in one of the pictures having just pushed 165kg on the sled over 20 metres. 

Three years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and Michael was instrumental in getting me in shape for the operation and the rehab that followed. As if that was not enough, early last year I was told that I had a 75% chance of liver cancer.  Michael's efforts once again helped prepare me for the operation. As it turned out I did not have cancer this time. My rehab this time has been much greater and Michael has been there every step of the way. 

Pushing that sled was like a celebration of what we have achieved together. My fitness would not be where it is without Michael's support. He is a great PT, a great family man and I'm proud to call him my friend.”

“In the 2 years that l trained with Michael MacFarlane he has taken me from a weakling with no energy to literally the top of a mountain! When l first went to the gym and worked with Michael l gave him my ambition to hike the Inca Trail and see the legendary lost city of Machu Picchu.

Six months later after following his training program, lunging and lifting weights for England, boxing, cardio and belly exercises, l had achieved that goal. It is a good idea to have a goal when you start training in my opinion.

It's also completely essential to have a great trainer!  I found working with Michael a wonderful experience and a good time. As we finished our last session prior to his return to Australia, 

l worked out that over 4 workouts a week for near on 2 years, the weights that l was now lifting compared to when l started were at least twice as heavy, that my leg strength had tripled and that my arms were certainly larger than when l started.

I really appreciate you help Michael and wish you all the best in the future.
